Safety & Quality

While you are receiving treatment at St Vincent’s Private Hospital your safety is our primary concern, we want you to feel secure, confident and have trust in those caring for you.

ImageAt St Vincent’s Private Hospital, safety is the dimension of quality most valued by patients and their families. Safety is the responsibility of all staff; it is embedded in the organisation's culture and has commitment from top-level management down. The objective of our safety program is to minimise preventable harm by identifying and fixing weakness in systems.

An integrated set of work practices

The program is an integrated set of work practices, policies and procedures that are used to monitor and improve safety by identifying risks facing patients, clinicians and healthcare providers from audits, complaints, claims, surveys and incidents to ensure that services are continuously improved.

Many procedures are in place to protect your wellbeing and to secure the best medical outcome possible for you. By working with your healthcare team you can help us to ensure a safer healthcare experience for you.

We want you to be fully informed & actively involved

An effective patient safety program means that you are fully informed and actively involved in your care. What does your involvement in patient safety mean to you and your family?

  • It means we need you to provide detailed information about your condition.
  • It means that you should clearly understand your diagnosis and treatment plan and know what to expect.
  • It means telling us about any changes in your condition, good or bad.
  • It means we want you to speak up when you have a question about any aspect of your care.
  • The first step to being involved in your care is to make an appointment to attend our Pre-Admission Centre. This is a free service where we will review your medical history, provide you with information about your surgery or condition and give you the opportunity to discuss any issues relating to your hospitalisation. Any investigations requested by your doctor will also be organised.  This is also the best time to discuss any concerns you may have about your discharge. The discharge planners can provide you with options available to you for post discharge care.

To make an appointment please call the Pre-Admission liaison staff on (02) 8382 7459,
Monday-Friday, 8am to 4pm.
