Patient Education Books

Our primary objectives while patients are with us are their wellbeing and speedy recovery. This is why we encourage patients to maintain a positive attitude and participate actively in their treatment.

Our patient information booklets are designed to provide information about specific surgeries and to guide patients through their recovery.  Refer to the list on the right and click on your particular surgery to download a patient information book.

It is important that patients read the booklet appropriate to their type of surgery, prior to admission as it will help their understanding of the procedure, in particular:

  • the anatomy related to their particular surgery
  • pre-admission centre
  • the admission process
  • discharge outcomes
  • occupational therapy (if required)
  • discharge planner/ social worker (if required)
  • the operation
  • expected length of stay
  • physiotherapy and exercises (if required)
  • precautions and possible complications
  • medications (if required)
  • going home

Every patient is an individual, therefore responses to hospital stay may vary slightly to those stated in the Patient Information Booklets.

We encourage patients to speak to their doctor if they have any further questions.
