Pre-Admission Clinic

 

 

ImageWe want to give our patients the best possible care, so it is important we have all the information we need about them and their medical condition before they arrive for their stay. If booked for surgery or a cardiac procedure, we ask that you make an appointment with the Pre-Admission Centre prior to admission to St Vincent’s Private Hospital.

Do I need to attend the Pre-admission Centre?

  • Are you having major surgery?
  • Are you having a procedure and being admitted on the same day?
  • Are you having cardiac surgery?
  • Are you having a total hip replacement?
  • Are you having a total knee replacement?
  • Are you having surgery for obesity?
  • Do you have any previous problems with anaesthetic?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you are required to attend the Pre- Admission Centre. Please contact the Pre-admission Centre on (02) 8382 7459 to make an appointment as soon as possible, preferably at least two weeks prior to your admission.

Pre-admission appointments

This is a free service and we will arrange free parking in St Vincent’s Clinic car park for the duration of this visit.

The length of your visit will vary depending on the type of admission.
Please allow at least one hour.

What happens at the Pre-Admission Centre?

The pre-admission process is designed to help us collect all the details we need about your condition and existing problems, and to answer any questions you may have.

The appointment will include:

  • assessment by a registered nurse
  • the opportunity to discuss issues such as your preferred accommodation
  • any dietary requirements (read more)
  • estimated cost of your stay
  • information regarding your pre- and post-procedural care
  • you may also be given information about your condition/surgery
  • changes to your needs after you go home are also identified and planned for at this time
  • any clerical work will be completed, and
  • questions may be asked regarding your health fund and costs.

Health assessment investigations such as pathology tests, x-rays, ECG may also be undertaken at this time. Consultations may be needed with other healthcare providers such as anaesthetists, physiotherapists, discharge planners and dieticians.

Please bring the following to your pre-admission appointment:

  • the completed health questionnaire and pre-admission details (unless previously sent)
  • any doctor’s letters related to your condition
  • scans and x-rays related to your condition
  • a list of your current medications from your general practitioner or pharmacy
  • details of your health insurance fund
  • Medicare card
  • pensioner health card (if applicable)
  • Health benefit card (if applicable)
  • Your credit card
  • Details of any community services you currently receive
  • Contact details of your general practitioner.
